A Treasure Trove of Data

b2ap3_thumbnail_treasure_of_data_400.jpgHave you ever thought about how much your data is worth? If you ask a company to put a price tag on their data, they probably won't be able to. After all, how can you put a price on something so valuable? You'll find that something as irreplaceable as your information is simply priceless. However, it doesn't have to be.

One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure
Assigning value to your data can be tricky business. It's not with just data, either; monetary value is only part of what makes something valuable. Someone might find quartz diamonds to be very valuable, even if they aren't worth nearly as much as real diamonds. The same can be said about your data – it's extremely useful for your company, but not useful at all to other companies, and very valuable to others. Therefore, it is nigh impossible to provide an objective opinion on how valuable your data is.

Putting a Price on Pixels
Because of the controversy a personal assessment would bring to the table, an insurance company would likely try to use their own method of designating the worth of your data:

  • Market or Appraised Value (MV): How much a given piece of property is worth to any buyer.
  • Assessment Value (AV): The Value placed on a property for municipal tax purposes.
  • Replacement Cost Value (RCV): The value placed on a piece of property by an insurance company for the purpose of coverage.

Since data isn't currently taxed, the Assessment Value isn't applicable. However, your data could be extremely valuable to your competitors, possibly even detrimental to your entire company's future. You can't put a price on that. So, the question remains, how much would an insurance company charge if you wanted to insure your data? There's a slight problem with that...

I Want Insurance for My Data!
Well, too bad. It doesn't exist. It's impossible to adequately protect data from being stolen by hackers or lost due to technical difficulties or user error. The risk is far too great to insure it. If something were to happen to your data, it is impossible to reimburse you for it, as you can't exactly purchase new data. It is completely irreplaceable, and you need to protect it in any way you can.

There's a Silver Lining
k_Street Consulting, LLC's Backup and Disaster Recovery solution doesn't ask that you put a price on your data. As technology experts, we know how valuable this data is to you. A BDR device lets your data be recovered quickly and efficiently, and when a disaster strikes your data, time is of the essence. Studies have shown that companies that lose their data for more than ten days are often forced to go out of business. If this isn't an incentive, there is none.

The future of your company depends on a safe and secure way to back up your data. k_Street Consulting, LLC's BDR plan copies your files to multiple locations (on site and off) in order to maximize its protection. You might be able to buy new computers with an insurance check, but you can't buy new data. Call k_Street Consulting, LLC at (202) 640-2737 today and shield your data, and business, from being completely eradicated.
